LINES vs. Sleeping Beauty

The dancer in the top photo from LINES has a bent knee and elbow, which is something we would never see in a classical work. Her wrist and eyes are down, emphasizing the more grounded nature of neoclassical ballet. In the picture from Sleeping Beauty, however, the ballerina is on pointe to appear taller, with her limbs extended and face out to the audience. The classical picture seems to hide the fact that the dancer is still on the floor while Alonzo King’s dancer is making it apparent.
